Nailed It, Not Sure, and What Can You Say About Black?

First, the skein I am newly in love with (though I won't keep this one.)  I went for the dragonfly palette:

So often in this pursuit there is a colour or two that don't quite hit the mark (usually pretty, just not what I was going for), but this time I really think I nailed it.  Very satisfying.

Now for one I'm a little less sure of:

I always try to dye with the eventual knitted object in mind, and I think that this will make a subtle blend of purples (mostly desaturated, with jewel toned highlights) with just enough green to make it pop without dominating the overall effect.  I can't be certain I achieved the necessary proportions until I knit it up though, and right now the green looks disconcertingly prominent in the skein.

Last of all, the Basic Black.

Black

As plain as it gets, but silk is silk after all, and even the recycled stuff can transform Basic into something extraordinary:

What beautiful yarn! I especially like the dragonfly palate. Really lovely! Also, I think the green will look just fine with the shades of purple. Like you say though, it is so difficult to judge what varied shade yarn will look like knitted up. That's all part of the fun though, isn't it?

You did it on the dragonfly . . . hit the nail right on the head! Beautiful.

I think you nailed the dragonfly colors too! Gorgeous!

It always surprises me how dominate green is, it's happened to me several times - not so green the roving, but WOW is it green in the yarn! Even more so knit up. Good thing I like green!

I absolutely LOVE the dragonfly colorway!

Ooooooh...the dragonfly yarn is stunning! I don't know what I like better now, the yarn or the original photo (I'm a bit of a freak for dragonflies).

Ball wind the middle skein and that will give you more of an idea how much that green will pop or not. It will at least look a bit more like the eventual knitted object than the skein will so may give you a feeling of confidence that it will be ok before you actually knit with it.

The dragonfly yarn I love so much (you made a gorgeous skein there) I momentarily considered a weekend in Whistler just to get my hands on the eventual knitted object before someone else could buy it.

I like basic black. Much of my wardrobe is basic black. That's not basic black, that's beautiful and shimmering and lots of other things, but not basic. Pretty.

I especially love the second skein of color, I could see a beautiful shawl made with this. By the way, L O V E reading your blog. Inspiration... inspiration and it makes the mind ponder of all the wonders that fill the senses. Love it!!!

gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

I love dragonflies too. I even have a dragonfly tattoo. :)

I love the dragonfly! It is gorgeous (so is the rest!)

The close-up of the black skein (how did you do that!?) is really insteresting. There are so many plies flying out all over the place that it looks hairy. I don't think I've ever laid hands on a skein like that, so I've no idea how it feels. Soft?

That dragonfly yarn is incredible - you really did nail it!!

I really like the sari silk in black too - I wouldn't have considered it in a solid, but it is beautiful.

What are you using for dyes/methods? I'm not ready to take on (yet another) fiber related hobby, but I'm very curious about the process!

Your purple and green silk reminds me of Noro.

That dragonfly yarn is just perfect . . . how gorgeous!

The dragonfly is beautiful, and the black is gorgeous! I do agree about the green, although it may not be so in-your-face when it is knit- just a bit of green here and there. Make sure you post the finished product!

Looks great! So lovely........... can't wait to see them knit up! Did I see tha you already knit up a Cobblestone, from Interweave(?) Can't wait to see how that looks!

Oh, god that dragonfly yarn is so beautiful. Another NSFW one! :-) Dare I hope that you'd consider selling your miraculous dyed yarn on the internet?

PS: I have made your dragonfly yarn my desktop background, because it is just that beautiful.
