Knitting on Impulse

Annui

is the Inuktitut word for falling snow, more specifically, the mesmerizing dance of gently drifting flakes unhindered by wind:

 

Inspired by the gradual accumulation of enormous feathery crystals on the murky twilight forest, the design also echoes the light and dark duality of our winter landscape.
 

Light and dark, yin and yang... all places have possibility.
 

 

Knit up from two half skeins of Bluefaced Bliss Worsted (ie. a BFL Worsted Duet), Annui was designed to be graphically striking as well as quick and simple to knit. The pattern will be available soon, in 5 sizes, with an alternate graphic option for the middle size, and the deep ribbing makes it pretty much foolproof to fit. (I had hoped to have it published for the gifting season, but c'est la vie.) It has gone off for tech editing and after that, testing, and... the coordinating mittens are nearly complete. Fortunately, there's still plenty of snow left in the year!

Resolution Day 16/26: Couched

Sorry.  I'm running out of upbeat ways to avoid admitting that I'm feeling considerably worse, and alternating between panic about the goals and tasks slipping through my fingers and crabbiness at the timing.

Nevertheless, I made pretty decent use of a day spent on the couch by designing a very chic (if I do say so myself) two colour hat that makes excellent use of two half skeins of BFL worsted AND knitting up two samples of said hat.  It now has a proper chart and a tidy spreadsheet in multiple sizes and I have great hopes of typing up the verbal version for tech editing in the next few days.  I've already got Rob working on worsted weight Duets.

There are no FO photos at this point, since my present appearance is on par with yesterday's zombie.

Speaking of zombies, and for the curious who asked... the eyeball was attached to her eyelid with regular scotch tape. Not a method I would personally recommend, and she didn't leave it there for long (though I agree that the hand-dyed optic nerve added a touch of class.)  If one were to deliberately tape anything to the skin, I'd think surgical tape might be the better option. Unless, of course, you're allergic, in which case you'd wind up looking truly scary. (Do I need a "Don't Try This At Home" disclaimer on the blog now?)

Duets: Coppergreen and Copper

Like two disparate instruments twining their melodic lines in blissful counterpoint, building up in rippling progression to that glorious moment of harmonic perfection that makes you want to cry or dance or hug someone...

 

A little like that. Here's the bare bones of the matter:

 

Complimentary pairings create the highest tension and excitement, but this one is tempered just a little with complexity.

Coppergreen is a cool jewel-toned turquoise blackened by weather and accompanying minerals, yielding rich and earthy base notes of black-glazed bluegreen. Copper on the other hand,  is a hot and highly saturated colourway, falling primarily in the red-orange zone, but with overtones spanning a range from gold to fuschia. The desaturation of the bluegreen and the broad base of the copper hues takes the potentially strident edge off the duet, giving it harmonic stability.

The pair could be the joyful accessory to a dignified ensemble, or a glorious accent on a Coppergreen cardigan. As for all-over sweater patterning.... well, for those with an unstoppable joie de vivre, why not?
